YORK Schoolboy Under-13s’ footballers maintained their much improved form when running out 2-1 winners over a strong Hambleton outfit.

York outplayed their visitors from the start and went ahead after ten minutes with an unstoppable snap shot from Aaron Collis, following a five-man move. York continued to press with Jake Rose, Harry Swords and Tom Robinson always threatening and should have been four up at the break.

A strong York defence ensured Hambleton were limited to a few long range efforts which never looked like troubling goalkeeper James Mackie.

York continued to press after the break with full-backs Harry Swires and Joe Sykes linking up with the attack.

Tom Gore, Robinson and man of the match Callum Hirst made the play in midfield and York should have extended their lead as Swords missed a couple of good chances.

The decisive goal came from a superb Dylan Howlett free-kick.

York upped the tempo and surged forward in waves but, against the run of play, the visitors were rewarded with a stoppage time close-range consolation.

York U11s stuttered to a 1-1 draw with visitors Leeds in the Trans-Pennine Champions League.

York have beaten Leeds twice already this season, but they turned in a lacklustre display in the third meeting of the sides.

Leeds started the game the brighter, moving the ball around well but without threatening York ’keeper Dan Miller.

York failed to find any fluency in their play and it was against the run of play that they took the lead after 20 minutes with a strike by George Brown.

The goal sparked York into life and shortly afterwards they had an excellent chance to go 2-0 up, but the ball was cleared off the line after a goalmouth scramble.

Leeds drew level midway through the second half when a defensive mix-up allowed a Leeds striker through one-on-one with Dan Miller, who made an excellent save only to see the follow up converted.

Sam Drake went agonisingly close to giving York the three points, but his strike thundered off the crossbar.
