A FESTIVE flower festival in the Lord Mayor of York’s historic home has opened in style.

Dozens of guests gathered at York’s Mansion House last night to admire the floral displays and enjoy an evening of wine, canapés and guitar music with the civic party.

Over the next three days, members of the public are invited to visit the 18th century building, which has been spectacularly decorated for Christmas with a mixture of contemporary and traditional arrangements.

The £5 entry fee will be donated to the Lord Mayor of York Charities, York Against Cancer and Brunswick Organic Nursery and Craft Workshop, a productive workplace for adults with learning difficulties in Bishopthorpe.

Festival co-ordinator Kath Doggett said: “The Mansion House has been decorated beautifully and people really must come and have a look.”

The Mansion House will be open for the festival from 10am to 5pm.
