NOW that Oasis have hung up their guitars, or smashed them in another bout of brotherly violence, it’s up to Stereophonics to hark back to the good old days of Britpop. And the Welsh rockers have no intention of letting us forget it.

This is not a bad record. Fans will be satisfied with this latest offering and, in single Innocent, they will have a hit as good as Dakota, Local Boy In The Photograph and Hurry Up And Wait. But up against the innovative likes of Them Crooked Vultures, and Sterophonics sound like pipe and slippers music. Seven records in and it’s the same old sound.

There’s an irony about that title – taken from the motivational Second World War poster which was never issued – for that’s exactly what they are doing. The formula is a winner and Sterophonics are damned if they are going to change it.
