A PAEDOPHILE was attacked by another prisoner seconds after being taken from the dock to start an indefinite sentence for abducting and abusing a schoolgirl.

Convicted child rapist Richard Paul Graves had his cheek split open when he was punched in the holding area at the back of the courtroom at Teesside Crown Court.

Security staff quickly brought Tuesday’s drama under control and the 39-year-old received treatment before being taken back to prison to begin his sentence.

The Press reported on Wednesday that Graves locked a 14-year-old girl in a garage, plied her with alcohol so she could not resist his desires and then carried out repeated sex attacks over three days in May last year.

He had only been released from prison the previous January after serving nine years of a 14 year sentence for the rape of an eight-year-old girl, Teesside Crown Court heard.

Graves, who by this time was living in a hostel in York, befriended the girl in an internet chat room in April 2008 and bombarded her with more than a 1,000 text messages and phone calls over the coming weeks.
