THE letter of November 23 about the hanging of the Union Flag misses the saddest aspect of the image displayed.

Far from the trivial debate as to which way up it is supposed to hang, the real issue is that these five young men wish to enlist at all.

The Oath of Allegiance signs them up for the next act of unjustified aggression that the US delegates to their subordinates in Whitehall, and with that comes all the dehumanizing, brutalising effects that waging another unjustifiable war is certain to have upon young men and women.
