YOUNGSTERS at a York primary school became police officers for a day as part of a project to teach them to respect their neighbourhood.
Year 6 pupils at Clifton Green Primary School teamed up with members of Clifton safer neighbourhood team to inspect their local area for cases of graffiti, vandalism, dog fouling, littering, alcohol abuse and fly tipping.
The aim was to encourage the children to take responsibility for making their community a pleasant environment to live in.
Police Community Support officer (PCSO) Wayne Capell said: “The day was all about teaching them to respect the area they live in, so when they become teenagers they don’t walk around with a spray tin throwing their chip packets on the ground.”
