A YOUNG musician from Meltonby near Pocklington is in the final of a major drumming competition.
George Hetherton, 17, brother of Daniel Hetherton, the drummer for Elliott Minor, is performing at the Beat 2009 Young Drummer Competition Final in Sheffield. The prize is a bespoke snare drum donated by Guru Drumworks.
George’s father, Timothy, said George was an A-Level music student and had been playing the drums for three years, as well as playing the trumpet and cello and is lead trumpeter in Pocklington Grammar School’s Swing Band. Mr Hetherton said George would love to follow his brother into the music business.
He said used to play in a band more than 40 years ago and most of his six sons were musically talented.
Toni Cannelli founded Drummers Alliance in 1987, the company presenting The Beat, to promote the musical instrument and the talent of playing it.
Some of the previous entrants afterwards have become professional drummers playing with famous musicians, such as, Mark Ronson, Incognito, Annie Lennox, Spice Girls and Basement Jaxx.
The final is on Sunday, November 15, at the HUBS in Sheffield.
