Prop Giles Smith scored four tries and loose-forward Josh Bolam three as Heworth ARLC Under-18s continued their good form by beating Harehills Pigeons 50-4. Smith scored his first after just two minutes as Heworth began with dominance. Bolam then got his treble, his second try coming when he got on the outside edge of the defence and ran 40 metres.

Smith powered over on a good angle and second-row Tom Hirst scored under the sticks after a lengthy run, before impressive centre Ben Stoker broke the line and raced 60 metres home.

After the interval, Dan Perkins scored after a lucky bounce before Smith completed his four-haul following two more powerful runs.

Heworth became more bothered about scoring points then sticking to the game-plan and the game got scrappy with Harehills benefiting from poor tackling to cross, although prop Callum Prenty had the final word with a try.

Goals were added by stand-off Haiden Barber (3) and man-of-the-match Prenty (3).

York Acorn U16s are still looking to strengthen and as a result took only ten men to face a quality Odsal side.

Despite overwhelming odds, Acorn gave their best display of the season and were only beaten due to lack of manpower. Martin Brown was named man of the match.

York Acorn U15s produced a sterling effort in awful conditions to beat Milford 22-14.

Tim Stubbs and Jordan Myers took the team forward, backed up well by outstanding defence from Toby Woodall. Joe Deighton scored two tries with Jordan Myers and Jack Griffiths also getting on the scoresheet.

A lack of substitutes did not help New Earswick U9s as they lost 12 tries to 7 to Dewsbury – Iain Oakley getting five of All Blacks’ scores.

It was good to see moves practised in training resulting in tries on the pitch.

The star men were Oakley, Joe Davison, for his tackling and try, and Finlay Osborne, for his strong running and try.
