SPORTY students from a York school have already got Olympic fever ahead of the 2012 London games.

The pupils from All Saints’ RC School in York are Young Sports Ambassadors.

To highlight the number of days left until the Olympics and Paralympics come to London, they turned out at York Minster and made themselves into the letters Y and A, for Young Ambassadors.

There are now less than 1,000 days to go until the international sporting event comes to England, and the youngsters were challenged by the Youth Sport Trust to come up with an idea to mark the countdown.

Young Ambassadors aim to use the power of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to inspire millions of young people to choose sport. By London 2012, more than 10,000 Young Ambassadors will have been active in their schools and communities.

The Young Ambassador programme is managed by the Youth Sport Trust on behalf of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Department for Children, School and Families.
