Two Fulford School sixth-form students have travelled to Ghana as student ambassadors seeking to establish links with African schools.

Maria Mazza and Lizzie Allen are sixth-form students at Fulford School.

In August, they sought a formal invitation to visit schools and meet students of a similar age in the West African country.

Also on the trip is Maria’s mother, Rose Mazza, headteacher at St George’s RC Primary School in York.

Rose will be finalising the arrangements for a formal link between her school and an Islamic school in Begoro.

Maria’s father, Dr David Mazza, left earlier for Ghana, leading the second visit of a team of medics from the Gillygate Surgery.
