The Ainsty Villages History Group is collecting photographs and information for a book on the history of Appleton Roebuck, Bolton Percy, Colton and Steeton during the 20th century.
During the course of our research, some characters stand out and have clearly made a big impact on village life, particularly in Appleton Roebuck.
I have appealed in The Press before for pictures of William Clayton, who was the schoolmaster for many years, without success. I am now looking for pictures of Jack Leeming and his wife, and also the last village blacksmith, William Lazenby.
If anyone can help us with pictures of these individuals, or any others, as well as information about life in the villages in the past, we would be most grateful. Please phone 01904 744263. Pictures can be scanned and promptly returned if the owners are not able to make copies.
Marjorie Harrison, Northfield Way, Appleton Roebuck, York.
