The standard of driving by some of York’s taxi drivers leaves a lot to be desired. At about 12.35pm on Wednesday, I was travelling along Bishopthorpe Road towards York city centre.
On approaching Campleshon Road, a black taxi cab cut straight across my path and right of way, from Bishopthorpe road into Campleshon Road toward the racecourse.
This action I thought an inconsiderate close call. That idiot was then followed by a silver-coloured taxi full of race-goers, causing me to brake sharply on my bike and narrowly miss the culprit.
My first thought was I would be joining the mate whose funeral I had just attended at the crematorium. The look on the faces of the drivers who were waiting to come out of Campleshon Road showed they were aghast at what was going on.
