Clifton ‘A’ ended the York Badminton League ladies one season in second place after a resounding 9-0 win at University Staff Club.

Heather Clarke and Karen Anderson were the pick of the pairings once again with an excellent return of 126-47 from three straight wins.

In ladies two, Tadcaster also ended on a high note with a 5-4 away win over second-placed St Johns. Nikki Hainsworth and Helen Wilson took three Saints wins, but Lesley Bowling and Kate Rowlatt sealed the away win. Riverside’s better form of late in men’s one continued with a 7-2 home win over RI Tues/Thursday ‘A’. Craig Dobson and Alex Fowler won all three of their games.

Clifton ‘B’ confirmed their place in men’s one next season with an 8-1 home win over relegated Shepherds. Matt Knight and Peter Minnikin combined well to take three rubbers.

Dave Simpson and Dave Byrom stopped the whitewash.

Clifton ‘A’ went one better when they visited Shepherds and won 9-0. Erik Wagenaars and Daniel Woolfson were the top visiting pair.

Pocklington went down 7-2 at home to RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘B’ in men’s two after a hard-fought match.

Paul Forth and Tony Kirkman set the standard for the visitors and were untroubled in taking all three of their games.

Fulfordgate had mixed fortunes in men’s three, beating Knavesmire 5-4 at the Mount School, and then losing 6-3 at Selby Jubilee.

Matt Hobman and Andrew Johnson were the matchwinners against Knavesmire.

The Jubilee match saw the home openers, Pete Murphy and Mike Stevens, put in one their best displays to register three straight wins and help the club to a well-deserved men’s three title.
