FORMER European Tour golfer Iain Pyman won the professionals’ prize at the Oaks Golf Club’s Pro-Am tournament.

The Yorkshire ace, playing with Scorpio Golf, carded a magnificent 66 in tricky winds to retain his crown at the course near Bubwith.

Pyman went out in 36 and played the back nine in an astonishing 30 shots, eagling the par five 12th to finish with a stableford score of 42 points.

Alex Belt, of Bridlington Links, and Jonathan Lupton, of Close House, were second on 40 points.

The team event was won by Fulford Tourists, led by Fulford Golf Club head professional Guy Wills with Mike Blades, Richard Wood and Tim Cullum.

They beat The Grinders, led by Oaks head pro Graham Walker with Oaks captain Peter Alderson, Paul Hand and Steve Binns, a former Commonwealth Games and Olympic 10,000-metre runner.

Lysa Jones, senior teaching pro at the Oaks, played off the men’s white championship tees and shot 27 points playing with the Oaks Ladies Team of Sheila Nutt, Ann Winn and Pat Stockill.

Meanwhile, the 13th annual Amken Classic Charity Golf Day, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, will be held at Flamborough Head Golf Club on Friday, August 7.

The competition is a betterball stableford open to men’s, women’s and mixed pairs. The maximum handicap is 24 for men and 30 for women.

First prize is golf for two people with bed, breakfast and evening dinner, donated by Marriott Worsley Park, plus a host of other prizes.

Entry costs £45 per pair, plus £2 each for nearest pin and the longest drive. There will also be a raffle.

• Yorkshire’s first Prince’s Trust golf tournament will be held at Aldwark Manor Golf Club, near York, on Thursday, June 18.

Entry for a team of four players costs £250, which includes bacon sandwiches on arrival, full access to the greens, dinner and a prize presentation.

All proceeds will go towards improving young lives across the region.
