CRICKETERS from Terrington Hall School are celebrating a hat-trick.

Three members of the school’s under-12s cricket team have been selected to play for North Yorkshire.

Off-spinner Charlie Hill, wicket-keeper Toby Latham and fast bowler George Wainwright – all members of Sheriff Hutton Bridge Cricket Club – have also been invited to attend trials for the Yorkshire U12s squad.

“It’s a huge honour for the boys,” said Terrington Hall headmaster Jon Glen. “It’s a tribute to Sheriff Hutton Bridge as well as the school. “A significant number of our pupils benefit from the club’s excellent junior coaching programme through which these boys have been able to access the ECB’s Pathways scheme.

“They have also benefited from the school’s winter and summer nets under the guidance of Scarborough professional and former Zimbabwe international Piet Rinke.”

The school has a strong cricket tradition and, later in the season, the first U11s six-a-side cricket tournament will be held, with local clubs including Sheriff Hutton Bridge, Easingwold, Malton and Pickering invited.

Last weekend, Terrington Hall held its inaugural two-day U13s cricket match against Durham School.

Durham won the toss and chose to bat, scoring 195 all out from 68 overs. Dale Bailey made 119 not out, with Wainwright taking 3-32 off 12 overs.

At the end of the first day, Terrington had three overs to face before close of play.

Starting the second day on six for no wicket, Terrington declared on 184-9 off 60 overs.

Toby Latham hit 41, while Durham’s Ellis Horner took 3-21.

Durham started their second innings 13 runs ahead with about 40 overs left in the match.

Terrington dismissed Durham for 87, with Jonnie Eleanor taking 2-9, Charlie Hill 2-19 and Charlie Prest 2-14.

But there was insufficient time for Terrington’s second innings and a draw was declared.

Meanwhile, former pupil Becky Glen has been selected for both the U15s and U17s Yorkshire ladies squads.
