A TOTAL of 28 clubs are fielding 95 teams in this season’s York & District Junior Cricket Association competitions.

The teams have already embarked on their quest for league and cup success across four age groups – Under-9s, U11s, U13s and U15s.

The clubs include 17 from the York & District Senior League and nine from the HPH York Vale League, plus Alne and Wilberfoss and two others. Alne will be competing at U13s level and Wilberfoss have entered an U15s team.

The U15s and U13s competitions are again sponsored by Hirepoint Plant & Tool Hire, while the U11s and U9s are backed by Burn & Company Solicitors.

Rain washed out the majority of the opening U15s fixtures, but the U11s and U13s are in full swing.

Ferry Lane hosted a close U11s contest between Bishopthorpe and Bolton Percy in the West Zone.

The home side edged through in the final over thanks to captain Giles Anderson, who top-scored with ten.

Andrew Shepherd had earlier boosted Bolton Percy’s total with 17 and Matthew Orr took 2-3.

In the East Zone, York ‘B’ easily overcame Ovington ‘B’ at Clifton Park.

With the exception of O Finch (2-0), the visitors’ bowling was wayward, giving away too many extras. The home bowlers, including C Ledgeway (3-9) and H Sutcliffe (2-1), were more accurate.

Londesborough Park’s bowlers got them off to a good start with a win against Osbaldwick. M Richardson took 2-2, Ben Shingles claimed 2-4 and Owen Raper got 2-5, while Billy Salmon top-scored with ten.

Pocklington beat Stamford Bridge, with J Atkinson scoring 22, B Potter 16 and A Field 13 in their total of 298.

Stamford Bridge’s Joe Aconley hit 19, but they fell short as H Isenstein took 2-7.

Stamford Bridge got off the mark in their second game with a home win over Woodhouse Grange.

Woodhouse conceded fewer wickets, but James Harvey (11) and Joe Aconley (14) gave Stamford the win.

The game between Osbaldwick and Dunnington was decided in Osbaldwick’s favour on the last ball.

Osbaldwick man of the match Tom Hannan had an excellent game and returned bowling figures of 0-2.

York ‘B’ made it two from two as they overcame debutants Yapham, with M Scurry taking 3-0, O White 3-3 and T Backhouse 2-7.
