MATTHEW Playle’s late goal ensured Dunnington Magpies Football Club Under-18s completed a Hull Boys Sunday League double.

League champions Dunnington deservedly trailed 1-0 at half-time in their Knock Out Plate final against Hessle at Dene Park.

But Alex Brent equalised on the hour and Playle struck on 88 minutes to see the Magpies steal victory.

Playle and Steve Woods were influential in the Magpies midfield and Connor Richardson saw an early second-half attempt cleared off the line before Brent slotted in from 15 yards after an inch-perfect through ball from Martyn Day.

Another Day pass then saw a full-stretch Playle beat Hessle’s onrushing ’keeper to settle the game.

Team manager Trace Briggs paid tribute to the team’s efforts, saying: “I am extremely proud of the whole squad because to win the league and cup double and also come runners-up in the County Cup final is a magnificent achievement for Dunnington.”
