North Yorkshire Service Area Under-15s rugby league team produced an excellent performance in windy conditions to beat Hull 18-12.

Norths dominated the first half and used the wind to good effect with the front row of Alex Coman, Kris Brining and Andrew Scriven taking the lead.

Brining and Ryan Gallacher, who was a constant threat, scored tries before Hull responded to make it 12-6 at half-time.

Norths battled hard in the second half into the wind and, although Hull equalised, neat interchanges between Louis Meadows, Gallacher and Tom Holmes set up the winning try by Ash Winstanley, who stepped inside to beat the cover defence.

A Holmes penalty upped the gap to six points and the home team held out in a tense finish.

North Yorkshire U14s lost 44-0 but gained good experience against a skilled Hull side.

Excellent displays came from Jack Anderson, Elliot Bulmer, pictured, Ben Owram and man-of-the-match Jack Stewart, who made numerous try-saving tackles.

Hull were 18-0 up after ten minutes before Norths started playing. Norths had a good completion rate despite the fact they were starved of the ball, and the final score did not reflect the game, Hull racking up extra points late on.

Loose-forward Ash Robson was outstanding for North Yorkshire U13s, well supported by Lewis Lord, Ben Church and Lewis Philips, as they put in a spirited performance against a well-organised Hull side, despite a 44-8 loss.

The home side dominated the first half, scoring five tries without response. The second half was much more even as Norths eventually found their rhythm and were rewarded with two tries, the first from winger Adam Lovett and the second a 40-metre dash from fellow debutant Jarred Smith.

North Yorkshire U12s lost 42-0 to a very strong Hull side. The team tried hard with Henry Andrews and David Fell impressing most.

Lack of ball control resulted in New Earswick All Blacks U11s losing 34-26 to Thornhill.

Man-of-the-match Connor Iddon scored a hat-trick, the opener following a great run from Kieran Hamilton and the second after a good break by George Wallace, while Hamilton himself scored twice.

Conversions were added by Luke Adamson, Jamie Law and Leatt.

Half-backs Will Ireland and George Leatt combined well throughout, with Ireland picking up the ‘excellent in defence’ award for his work-rate and Leatt the ‘excellent in attack’ accolade, for his involvement in four of the five All Blacks tries.

Jekyll and Hyde Heworth U9s were terrific against a strong Eastmoor side but error-riddled against Shaw Cross.

Sam Young, Shay North and Josh Rogerson were magnificent in both games, between them scoring seven tries and four conversions and making over 65 tackles.

Kieran Kostanzo and Andrew Errington were the most improved players, while Max Carry and Leon Beattie took the ‘man of steel’ awards.

Beattie also crossed three times over the two games and added two conversions. Arron Mcbride returned against Shaw Cross to claim the top tackler award.

New Earswick U9s dug deep and came up with their best performance of the season against a good Wibsey side.

Their tackling was much-improved, with Daniel Craven making big hits and Harvey Baynes’ high tackle count contributing to his man-of-the-match accolade.

Ewan Coverdale was the opposition coaches’ choice of man of the match, while Jimmy Pigott, whose strong running saw him cross four times, and Josh Harrison, who scored another full-length try, shared the team player awards.

Adam Winter Rhodes, who has been working on his defence, excelled, and forward Harry Suter worked tirelessly and added a conversion, as did Thomas Noble and Baynes.

Josh Ireland scored from acting-half and goaled, and the dangerous Isaac Wilson also crossed.
