DOMINIC Shread was crowned a double champion at the York and District Junior Tennis Championships held at Queen Margaret’s School in Escrick.
The St Peter’s player beat Tom Craddock 7-5 in the Under-18s competition and then beat the same Fulford player 6-4 in the U16s final to establish his credentials as the top young York player.
In the U14s competition, which saw eight entries, Bootham’s Ryan Tutton saw off Easingwold School’s Ben Tranter 6-3 and Huntington’s Matthew Stephenson took the U12s honours with a 6-4 victory over Joseph Rowntree’s Ben King.
In the girls, all six entrants in the U18s competition came from Queen Margaret’s and it was Frances Johnson who prevailed, triumphing 6-4 over Genny Owen.
Selby High School’s Emma Foster trounced Queen Margaret’s Tamsin Martin Smith 6-1 in the U15s competition but it was a tougher task for Anna Bradshaw, of Fulford School, in the U14s tournament. She saw off Anna Williams (Queen Margaret’s) 7-5 in a close contest. In the U12s, St Olave’s Lauren Cayley whitewashed school colleague Olivia Shread 6-0.
