JUNIOR players and officials are celebrating a season of success at York RUFC – capped by a trip to Twickenham today.

Youngsters from under-8s to U12s level have won festivals across the country, with the U11s also reaching the semi-finals of the Yorkshire Cup.

Success in the prestigious Nottingham Festival has earned the Clifton Park club’s U9s squad a run out at Twickenham today in a curtainraiser to the Guinness Premiership final between Leicester and London Irish.

The York side will take on Sandal in the semi-finals of the competition, with the winners going on to face Macclesfield or Brighton before the professionals take to the field at 5.30pm.

John Atkin, junior fixture secretary, said: “It’s been a really good season.

“We have got 300 kids under 16 registered with the club and it’s great to have so many turning out every week.”

The ambitious club have recently signed a new sponsorship deal with York-based development firm Grantside, while work is continuing on developing a new clubhouse at their Clifton Lane base.

Anyone interested in joining the club should attend a registration session on the first Sunday in September.

Further details will be announced in Park Life when finalised.
