YORK and District Against Motor Neurone Disease (YAMND) is a small local charity operating within a 20-mile radius of York hospital, not to be confused with MNDA, which is a national charity.

We employ a specialist MND nurse on a part-time basis. Her work is to give care and support to the patients and their families and to liaise with other health practitioners to ensure that the best possible treatment is made available.

We also provide specialist equipment that is not readily available through the NHS.

As part of our fundraising programme a collection was held in York city centre on Saturday, May 2, raising £366, which will be used in the direct care of MND patients.

Our sincere thanks go to all who donated so generously and also to our small band of collectors for giving up their time, once again, to support our cause.

In common with many small charities, we struggle to raise sufficient money to do a good job and their help is invaluable. Well done, everyone!
