THE sister of a Tadcaster Grammar School pupil who died while caving with classmates in Upper Nidderdale has helped raise funds to boost rescue services in the Yorkshire Dales.
Laura Lister joined the school’s Big Band to perform to a full house at its Jazz in the Marquee event.
The Big Band, which was led by Gillian Hainsworth on keyboards, entertained an enthusiastic audience with three 40-minute slots of big band favourites.
Sixth-form pupil Laura – whose brother Joe died aged 14 in November 2005, while on a school trip – and Bethany Whale, from Year 11, sang several songs with the band.
A spokesman for the event said the comperes for the afternoon, Ben Marshall and Joe Coolican, “kept the audience amused with their humour and quick wit”.
Other attractions included novelty events, a barbecue, tombola, stalls, games and a giant raffle, with all the prizes being donated by local businesses.
Mrs Hainsworth said: “We would like to thank all the businesses for their generous support once again.
“We would also like to thank all those who helped in any way and to our audience for their continued support.”
A donation from the money raised on the day will be sent to the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association.
