MORE than 100 cyclists – some of them wearing fancy dress – staged a memorial bike ride to mark the first anniversary of Ruby Milnes’ death on a York cycle path.
The cyclists – family members, friends, neighbours and representatives of York’s cycling community – stopped at the point behind York Racecourse where the 17-year-old died for a minute’s silence, before a trumpeter played the Last Post.
Ruby, of Bishophill, was killed last May when she was in collision with a lorry crossing the track to get to the racecourse.
Her parents, Alison and David Milnes, decided a brightly-dressed bike ride to Bishopthorpe would be the best way of remembering Ruby, who had a fun-loving spirit.
Alison said: “It was quite a moving occasion.”
