THE end is in sight for long-suffering residents at a housing development in York, say city leaders.
People living in Sovereign Park, Acomb, have complained for years about what they see as inadequate council services.
They say their roads and pavements have not been maintained and they have had problems with lighting and bins, because the development was not adopted by City of York Council.
Residents drew up a petition, calling for a reduction in council tax to reflect the difficulties.
The council’s ruling executive yesterday rejected those calls, but officials said adoption was now only weeks away.
Coun Steve Galloway, who is responsible for city strategy at the council, said residents in several new developments had experienced similar problems, and called on officials to work on a new system, where such developments would be adopted more quickly.
