ONE thing that life has taught me is you are never too old to learn. Thinking the other day that I couldn’t define the difference between elderly and old, I decided to take a peep at my pocket Oxford dictionary – elderly is described as somewhat old, past middle age.

There appear to be more definitions of old than most other words in the dictionary.

With a wry smile, I thought one of them aptly gave a fair description of me: “worn or dilapidated, or shabby by the passing of time”.

Racing on towards 80, they don’t call me the galloping granddad for nothing.
