THE Princess Royal visited an East Yorkshire village to officially open a new training centre for the Hearing Dogs For Deaf People organisation.
Princess Anne, who has been the charity’s patron since 1992, visited the Bielby centre to unveil a commemorative plaque and greet members of the new centre’s staff and board of trustees.
She then toured the site to meet several deaf people whose quality of life has been improved with a hearing dog and to watch a demonstration of how hearing dogs work in teams.
Spokeswoman Jenny Moir said: “We were very excited at the Princess Royal’s visit.
“She has been a patron of Hearing Dogs For Deaf People for a long time and she has previously opened our centre in Selby, so it was great for her to see how we as a charity have progressed.
“This centre will allow us to train more dogs than ever for people in northern England.”
The charity moved into its training centre in Bielby in October after a £2.5 million appeal.
The move was prompted by an increasing demand for hearing dogs in the region.
