POLICE have named a pensioner who died in a crash on a North Yorkshire road as they continue to hunt for witnesses to the tragedy.

The 87-year-old man who was killed when the grey Vauxhall Corsa he was driving collided with a red Rover 400 near Bagby, a village close to Thirsk, was Frank Wilson, who lived in Ampleforth. The crash happened at about 3.45pm on Saturday as Mr Wilson’s car headed from Sowerby towards the Bagby junction with the A19.

At the time, the Rover was travelling north along the A19 towards Thirsk.

Three people who were in the Rover – a 62-year-old man, a 60-year-old woman and a 13-year-old boy – all suffered minor injuries in the collision and were treated at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton.

Anybody who saw the crash or either the Corsa or the Rover before it happened should phone Traffic Constable Paul Tempest at North Yorkshire Police’s Thirsk Road Policing Group on 0845 6060247.
