TOURISM chiefs in York have stepped up their quest to entice more visitors to the city with the launch of a new six-day pass.

For the first time, anybody who buys a York Pass will be able to gain entry to more than 50 attractions – 20 more than last year – and tourism body Visit York hopes it will encourage people to spend more time in Yorkshire.

It will come with a 112-page guidebook, also available in French and German, and a range of shopping and dining discounts, and a marketing campaign promoting it is being launched this week.

New additions to the list of attractions include Helmsley and Pickering Castles and Kirkham Priory, and Visit York is looking at possibly introducing a Yorkshire Pass later this year.

Kate McMullen, Visit York marketing manager, said: “This new six-day pass is a fantastic addition to the one, two and three-day pass.

“By using the pass as an incentive to stay longer and explore the rest of Yorkshire too, we aim to generate more tourism income for York and the region. The six-day pass offers fantastic value for money and means visitors can explore more of York and Yorkshire for less.”

As well as being sold through York hotels and Visit York’s visitor information centres, the York Pass will also be marketed as far away as Australia and the United States.
