I HAVE been reading lately in The Press about a German bomber flying over York in 1940.
I wonder if this was the same German plane I once remember seeing crash at Crockey Hill in the little copse of trees opposite the turn-off to Headrace (this, I think, would have been 1943).
All that could be seen was the tail plane and part of the fuselage with the German cross. But the fuselage seemed to be too small in depth for a bomber. I wonder if anyone remembers this.
Could it have been a fighter plane and where did it finish up? Could it be in Elvington Museum?
So come on some of you historians, get your thinking caps on. There must be a record somewhere.
