THOUSANDS of young people gathered in York, as Scouts, Guides and Brownies held their annual St George’s Day parade.

Members of various Scout Association units came together at the Eye of York and paraded to York Minster, where a service was held.

The youngsters enjoyed the sunshine as they marched through the city, accompanied by group bands.

Organiser Mandy Barker said about 2,000 young people had taken part.

“It went really well,” she said.

“We had a really fantastic turnout. It was lovely weather and we had lots of fun in the Minster.”

She said the youngsters had made paper chains, and a large globe was used to remind people of the world and the things they could do to make a difference.
