Tadcaster Albion Under-12s won the York FA Acaster Steel Cup after a nail-biting 1-0 victory against Thorpe United, writes Shaun Wathey.

Played at Pocklington Town, the match was tightly contested as players struggled on the larger pitch.

The best chance of the first half fell to Thorpe’s man-of-the-match, Tom Cheshire, whose 25-yard free-kick was thwarted.

The second half saw the players get used to the size of the pitch, allowing for a more open game.

With just five minutes left before extra time, Tadcaster took the lead through Bradley Richardson. His 30-yard free-kick was spilled straight into the net by the unlucky Thorpe ’keeper.

Thorpe responded when a flowing team move saw them put the ball agonisingly over the bar just before the full-time whistle.

Tadcaster managed to hold on to lift the trophy, which was presented by Andy Thompson from Acaster Steel Ltd.
