YORK Schoolboys Under-13s saw their league title hopes all but dashed as they lost 3-0 at Hull in midweek.

The East Riding side’s victory is likely to see them crowned champions, snatching the crown from York’s grasp.

The potential title decider saw Hull field their strongest side possible and they were quick out of the blocks.

They played a high tempo game and gave York very little time on the ball to play their normal quick passing game.

York appeared a little tense and mistakes started to creep into their game.

It was one of those mistakes that led to Hull’s opening goal and the York goalkeeper was given very little chance.

Chris Banks and Alex Horsman worked hard to contain a strong and quick Hull forward line, supported well by both York full-backs.

Oli Adamson and Sam Ripley Kitson were given very little space and time on the ball to dominate the midfield as they have in previous games.

That meant York’s wide players James Green and Jordan Outerbridge struggled to get into the game and provide any service to the York forwards.

York refused to give up and worked extremely hard to close Hull down, but an unfortunate own goal gave the home side a commanding 2-0 lead.

Hull quickly scored a third after another defensive mistake.

In the second half, York continued to work hard and, such is the sprit of this side, they could easily have scored three or four goals.

Half chances fell to James Green, Chris Banks and James Hudson, while Tom Hawksby hit the crossbar.

York coach Paul Horsman said: “If we had nicked a goal the confidence would have grown and I believe we could have got a result.

“However, on the night Hull probably deserved to win, but that is twice now we have given them a three-goal lead which makes it difficult to come back.

“The league title is now in the hands of other results.

“All we can do is go out and beat Leeds to keep our faint chances alive.”
