A LATE try earned New Earswick All Blacks ARLC Under-13s a crucial 28-26 victory over promotion-chasing Hunslet Warriors.

The All Blacks went into the game knowing they had to win to avoid relegation from the second division.

The Warriors started the stronger of the two sides and raced into a 20-0 half-time lead.

However, the All Blacks, buoyed by a seven-game undefeated run, came out firing in the second half.

The All Blacks were back in the game early in the second period after man-of-the-match Josh Dale dived over from dummy half. Dec Callum added the extras.

The lead was then rapidly reduced. From the kick-off, the All Blacks drove downfield before some brilliant play allowed Tom Gurden to score, and Callum converted.

The Warriors thought they had the game wrapped up after a defensive slip-up allowed them another try, making the scores 26-12.

The All Blacks refused to give in, and were back in contention with a second try from Gurden.

From the kick off, the All Blacks struck again as full-back Lewis Phillips went over and Tom Kilvington converted. The scores were level when Gurden went in for his hat-trick try three minutes from time and Kilvington didn’t let the pressure get to him as he converted to secure the win.

New Earswick U11s drew 18-18 with Milford Marlins. Milford took an early lead, but the All Blacks responded with a Connor Iddon try, and a Luke Adamson conversion.

Will Ireland, who got both opposition coaches’ man-of-the match and the excellent in defence awards, combined with George Leatt for Tom Benson to score in the corner.

Leatt, who won the excellent in attack award, added the extras.

Milford again levelled, but the All Blacks responded with a second try for Iddon, after good work by Tom Wilson, who won the outstanding effort award. Jamie Law converted. Milford grabbed another try to level.

New Earswick U9s lost against Dewsbury Celtic despite starting the game well. Tireless tackling from Ewan Coverdale saw him pick up the man-of-the-match award, although a strong performance from Harry Suter saw him pick up the opposition’s man-of-the-match.

The most improved player was Adam Winter Jones who’s speed was a threat throughout, and team player was Jacob Wilson.

York Acorn U18s marched into the top four play-off final with a superb 20-16 victory at league runners-up Fryston.

Acorn were well served by man of the match Matthew Bedda, and props Chris Rushworth and Josh Mortimer.

They secured their place in the final with a late try from hard- working centre Dominic Nelson.

The Blue and Golds’ earlier points came from tries by Matthew Woods, Eddie Bedingham and James Mountford, with Anthony Chilton kicking two goals.

York Acorn U10s entertained Stanningley and, thanks to excellent support play, ran in six tries.

Top tackler Reece Maynard scored two and there was one each for man of the match Max Sharpley, Tom Atkin, Jack Wyard and Dalton Brolly.

Luke Cooke took the coaches’ award and Will Dickenson was most improved.
