Bootham ‘A’ beat Fulford ‘B’ in the final of the York Conservative Clubs’ Kutters and Shannons Team Cup in a tense battle which went to a respotted black in the final frame.
In the first game, Fulford’s Andy Hurley (+6 h/c) beat Mark Darley (+8) 69-30. Bootham’s Wayne Glaister (+14) matched Bob Smith (+15), the current over-50s champion, all the way to the final colours. Glaister won 67-51.
Jim Rollinson (+7) outclassed Bootham’s John Darley (+6) as he attacked the balls and with a 22 break went 60-16 ahead. Rollinson won 74-32 and moved Fulford 2-1 in front.
Bootham’s Simon Robinson (+20) went 38-15 ahead of John Adcock (+14), who fought back to level at 43-43. Adcock won 65-52.
In the fifth frame, Fulford’s Arthur Pegden (44) came from behind, helped by three in-offs, to lead Colin Robinson (+3) by 20 points. However, Robinson won and Bootham were still in the match at 3-2.
Brenden Ledgeway (+13) looked to be in trouble when Fulford’s captain Nigel Smith (+16) took the yellow to lead 60-47. When Ledgeway claimed green and brown, Smith replied with the blue to lead 65-54. Ledgeway potted pink and black to win 67-65 and level the match.
In the seventh frame, Bootham’s Barry Rankin (-14), and Alan Reed (+16) were level at 66-66 at the black. However, after several safety shots, Rankin was left an easy pot to middle pocket to win 73-66 and seal the match.
