Although understanding the importance of news of violence and having very great sympathy for the victims of violence (having being such myself), it was sad to see that the death of Robin Guthrie was excluded from the headlines of The Press on April 22 and relegated to page 16 (Tributes paid to charity stalwart).

He was a gentleman who did, as Mr Laycock’s article described, a very great deal for our great city.

His promotion, encouragement and support of the York Museums Trust (which does so much to encourage tourism and education in the city) together for his work for so many charities affords him grateful applause and full recognition of this may encourage others to try to follow his excellent example.

I would hope the news of the good would take priority in front-page headiness rather than the sad stories of violence in our city.

Father Stephen, Brownlow Street, York.
