How intriguing, a letter from Linda Maggs (Could new homes plan affect you?, March 13) detailing a recent Local Development Framework meeting at which the Lib Dems on the committee voted to classify recently identified housing sites in the green belt as “unsuitable for development”.

Despite not being at the meeting, she then went on to detail the voting patterns and then lavish praise on the Lib Dems for voting in “line with their commitment”. Could this be the same Linda Maggs described as a “local campaigner” in the Lib-Dem Focus leaflet recently distributed in Dunnington – a leaflet that states “only Liberal Democrats on York Council have consistently opposed building on green belt land”?

That statement, like many previous ones in these Lib-Dem propaganda sheets, is not correct.

For the last six years the ruling Lib-Dem Council have rammed through huge developments on hundreds on acres of green belt at Fulford, Heslington and Osbaldwick.

Can a Lib-Dem councillor or activist please tell me when this “consistent” opposition to building on York’s green belt started?

Galloway’s Lib Dems defenders of York’s green belt?

Next they will be telling us they will be building a six-lane community pool at the Barbican and spending £4.4 million on Yearsley and Edmund Wilson Pools, as they did in the Osbaldwick Focus leaflet in November 2003.
