AS FAR as Diary’s household is concerned, we’d have an easier ride if we suggested ex-bank boss Sir Fred Goodwin was worth the money than if we tried to criticise Coronation Street.

The Mancunian soap is utterly sacrosanct territory for Mrs Diary, who is only a worrying step away from believing that it represents real life.

So we’re not sure what she’d make of York actor Andrew Dunn’s comments on the Corrieblog website this week, now that his time playing Roger The Plumber has come to an end.

Andrew has now returned home turf to reprise his role as Tony the canteen manager in a stage version of TV comedy show Dinnerladies, at the Theatre Royal until tomorrow.

And he admits his experience in Corrie wasn’t all beer and hotpots, telling the website: “I enjoyed bits of it, but because I wasn’t involved in it a lot, it was frustrating.

“I started off on contract, but then they used me when they wanted me – eight episodes and then I wasn’t needed for six weeks. They got going on storylines that only needed a handful of people and no one else was needed. The arrival of a new producer was partly the reason my character was written out.”

Having seen the farcical depths the Street has plumbed recently, he’s probably best off out of it. And he doesn’t have to get frisky with Janice Battersby any more. Shudder.
