IS IT really necessary to disfigure the countryside with bright yellow marker posts to indicate overhead cables?
On the A64 between York and Malton there are 20 overhead cables, each recently marked with four posts making a total of 80 markers on this stretch of road alone. Are they necessary when there is a maximum height for vehicular traffic?
If the cables are too low, or particularly dangerous, they should be raised or diverted underground.
Every overhead cable has been marked including power cables and telecom cables, many of which are very much higher than bridge clearances.
Are we prepared to see every country road and lane disfigured in this way?
