THIS little piece of Venice has been on the edge of Brayton Barff for years.

However, its days as a water treatment works are now far behind it, with builders converting it into a lavish four-bedroom home.

The Old Waterworks, formerly owned by Yorkshire Water, was built in 1908 in the style of a Venetian Palace.

Its brick pillars were crumbling away by the time conversion experts Kingsford Homes took it on, but its plan to breathe new life into it is almost complete.

Kingsford Homes’ past projects have included buildings on the moors near Huddersfield, Addingham and White Wells. Brayton Barff will be the grandest of all, with £20,000 spent on 600 handmade bricks and the conversion of two circular towers, originally designed to lift the twin steam pumps for maintenance, into a circular bathroom and access to the first floor.

When it is finished, it will also include an entrance hall, a drawing room, a dining room, a kitchen, a study, a cloakroom and a utility room.

There will be a master bedroom suite with a wet room, a second bedroom with an en-suite shower room, two more bedrooms and a house bathroom to the first floor.

Outside, the owners will be able to enjoy formal gardens, adjoining woodlands and views across fields and towards Selby.
