IN THE wake of York City’s procession to Wembley for the FA Trophy final, the Minstermen’s fans could be forgiven for getting carried away.
But the euphoria surrounding KitKat Crescent at the moment – until you remember the club’s iffy league position, anyway – has clearly got to BBC Look North presenter Christa Ackroyd.
City follower Harry Gration’s sidekick on the evening news sofa got her competitions in a twist the other night when she congratulated Martin Foyle’s men on reaching “the FA Cup final”.
Some achievement, particularly as the semi-finals of that tournament haven’t been held yet – and, in any case, the mighty Reds were knocked out at Mansfield Town in a fourth qualifying round replay.
In these times of economic strife, it remains to be seen how City’s supporters are going to cough up for two trips to London in the space of three weeks in May. At this rate, the police will be wondering where they got the money from.
Anyway – and with sincere apologies to Christa, who is very nice and all that and always puts the ever mischievous Paul ‘The Weatherman’ Hudson in his place – Diary must just hope City’s double Wembley preparations don’t interfere too much with their quest to win back the Ashes, triumph in the Grand National and bring home the Eurovision Song Contest title.
