AS any paramedic knows, when dealing with an emergency speed can make the difference between life and death. Therefore hospital and ambulance staff alike deserve real credit for slashing the length of time it takes to prepare ambulances between calls.
Last year, it took 40 minutes to make sure an ambulance which had just delivered a patient to York Hospital was ready to respond to another call.
Now that time has been halved to just 22 minutes.
That is real progress, and could shave vital minutes off the time it takes to respond to an emergency.
