Huntington ‘B’ entertained St John’s and lost 6-3 in a hard-fought match in ladies division two of the York Badminton League.

Lorraine Gregory and Chiara Secchi took three home wins for 127-94, but the students kept their grip on the top place when Nikki Hainsworth and Helen Wilson swung the match with a 7 and 13 win over Linda Fairclough and Carolyn Arden.

Riverside played well to record a 6-3 home win over Clifton ‘B’ in men’s one.

Craig Dobson and Geoff Oxley laid the foundations for the home win with three tough successes which brought them a return of 155-127.

RI Monday/Wednesday ‘B’ moved into second spot in men’s three after an 8-1 home win over third-placed Selby Jubilee.

Paul Turner and Ben Weller topped the home averages with all three for 140-108.

Selby/Drax ‘B’ tightened their grip on the title after a 7-2 home win over Knavesmire and a 9-0 win over RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘C’.

John Prickett and Naz Shefta took maximums in both matches to record 275-168 from six wins. Selby Jubilee came back to form when they visited RI Tues/Thursday ‘C’ and just won 5-4.

The scores were tied at 4-4 going into the final rubber in which Simon Benson and G Long gained the vital win with a 21-11, 19-21, 21-17 win over Graham Terry and Ben McNeilage to give Selby the win bonus points.

The fight to stave off relegation from mixed one saw Tadcaster ‘A’ narrowly beat Shepherds ‘A’ 5-4.

Phil Zealand and Liz Rowlatt took their usual home maximum, which included the match-winning eighth rubber, where they beat Paul Nichol and Clare Forth 12 and 15.

University Students ‘A’, vying with Clifton ‘A’ for second place in mixed one, boosted their claim with a 7-2 home win over RI Monday/Wednesday ‘B’.

Patrick Clarke and Natha Tritasant were the top campus pair with a superb straight games maximum for 128-89.

Clifton ‘C’, joint leaders of mixed two, pressed their title claim title with an 8-1 home win over Rowntrees. Matt Knight and Lucy Smith hit top form for the St Peter’s-based club with a return of 126-61.

Phil Grant and Helen Shepherd stopped the whitewash with a 13 and 14 win over Simon Christian and Gerry Screeton.

Fulfordgate ‘A’ got back on the winning track with a 6-3 mixed four home win over depleted leaders University Staff Club.

Matt Hobman and Hazel Winfield were untroubled in taking their allocation for a total of 126-52.

Fulfordgate ‘B’ rounded off a successful week for the club with a 6-3 away win over Huntington ‘B’.
