TEENAGERS and their parents are being invited to an open evening at York College tomorrow to find out about careers in the construction industry.
The building industry has been hard hit by the recession, but college bosses point out that unless young people continue training now, once the economy picks up there could be a major skills shortage.
Paul Monroe, head of the college’s construction management and design division, said:“Things may be difficult now, but they cannot remain so for ever.”
Tomorrow night’s open evening runs from 6pm to 8pm. Teenagers will be able to find out about a whole range of courses and careers, from carpentry, plumbing and bricklaying to architecture, site management and building surveying.
