A LATE winner from Jack Overton fired Wigginton Grasshoppers into the final of the York FA Under-14s Minor Cup.

Wigginton’s semi-final clash with visitors Woodthorpe Wanderers was heading for extra-time with the sides locked at 3-3 before Overton’s 20-yard cracker settled the tie.

At half-time in normal time, the hosts had led 3-2 with Wigginton’s goals coming from Wilson Briggs, Charlie Suter and Overton.

Jack Buckett and Hussain Akdag were the Wanderers scorers in the first period, and Liam Turner’s close-range strike levelled matters early in the second half.

Rawcliffe await Wigginton in the final after they thrashed Fulford 9-3 in the second semi-final.

Rawcliffe led 5-1 at half-time with Mick Fasera scoring a hat-trick to add to goals from Sam Martin and Josh Mannic. Chris Tune was Fulford’s marksman.

After the break, Fulford fought back to 5-3 with strikes by Tune and Luke Elson, with a penalty.

Alex Martin, however, added to Rawcliffe’s tally, Masera bagged a fourth and Elliott Marsay scored twice late on.

The York FA Inturf Junior Minor Cup final will be between Poppleton ‘A’ and Thorpe United.

Poppleton produced a surprise 1-0 win over Bishopthorpe White Rose, with a free-kick strike from Ryan Williamson two minutes from time.

Goals from Jordan Leybourne, Mike Cussons and Tom Rowley earned Thorpe a 3-0 win over York Cubs ‘A’.

Thorpe also reached the final of the York FA Acaster Steel Cup with a 3-2 victory over ten-man Rawcliffe Tigers after extra time.

Scott Arnold scored for Thorpe, but Rawcliffe levelled to take the game into extra time.

Tommy Butterfield and Harry Preece scored for Thorpe and Rawcliffe could only manage one goal in reply.

Tadcaster Albion booked their place in the final with a 3-1 victory over Wigginton Grasshoppers.

Alex Keeble put Albion 1-0 up after five minutes, but Theo Ainsley levelled before the break.

Bradley Richardson restored Tadcaster’s lead from the penalty spot.

Tadcaster made sure of their final berth against Thorpe when Keeble volleyed in a cross from the right-hand side with ten minutes remaining.

Scott Collins was outstanding in the Albion midfield.
