Why are city council officials so determined to clear the streets of A-boards and not prepared to take action against the motorists who park on the footpaths around the city?
These are just as much a hazard to the blind, the elderly and disabled because the abuse is more widespread – a case of double standards, I think. Maybe we could have the courtesy of a reply from Steve Galloway, executive member for city strategy, instead of one from a nameless council employee.

• Coun Steve Galloway said: “York council parking wardens enforce parking restrictions (yellow lines) in the city. These restrictions also apply to the adjacent verge and footpath.
“If residents see a breech of such a restriction then they can report the incident to the parking services hotline on 0800 1381119. They operate a mobile enforcement service.
“If there are no yellow lines in place, then any obstruction of the footpath would fall to the police to enforce.”
