A mini Spanish armada has dropped anchor at a York primary school.

Sixteen children from Asuncion Rincon School, in Madrid, and Robert Wilkinson Primary School, in Strensall, York, are taking part in a school exchange.

The link between schools originated during an Anglo-Spanish Contact Seminar held in Sheffield during 2005. Since then, the schools have developed a partnership and 2009 will mark the second time they have undertaken a joint exchange.

The project, sponsored by the British Council, has been set up so pupils canshare cultural similarities and learn about the differences between schools.

During their stay at Robert Wilkinson, the Spanish children worked with their York counterparts on a joint curriculum project to highlight the importance of healthy living and the value of exercise and food.

Children from Robert Wilkinson will be visiting the Spanish capital Madrid at the end of the month.
