We all know public transport is a green alternative, and in a large county like Yorkshire, the credit crunch and rising fuel prices are making motoring an increasingly costly business.
But buses and trains must meet the needs of passengers. They must be timely, convenient, and pleasant to use if drivers are to leave their cars at home.
The number 40 between Easingwold and York seems to be hitting the spot. It has won Government praise and, much more importantly, passenger numbers are rocketing.
Many other parts of North and East Yorkshire crying out for this sort of link. Local authorities, please take note.
