SIMPLY twin-credible!

Teachers at a school in North Yorkshire have been rubbing their eyes after seven sets of twins joined its ranks.

Staff at St Martin’s Ampleforth School, at Gilling Castle, near Helmsley, in North Yorkshire, believe they may have the highest number of cases in the UK.

The private school has 206 pupils on its books and with seven sets of twins that means there is one for every 14 pupils.

These are Janet and Jenny Chan, 13; Benedict and Gregor Sweet, 11; Phoebe and Edward Irven, ten; Tinika and Mikaela Crossley, seven; Merlin and Octavia Howard, six; Imogen and Lydia Cooper, three; and Harry and Rosie Snelling, three.

What’s more, another two pairs of twins are set to head to Ampleforth to join the school’s nursery section from September.

Lynn Harrison, school secretary and marketing spokeswoman, said: “Is this a record for a school to have so many twins?

“We think it’s very unusual to have such a high number of twins in a school with such a small number of pupils.

“They range in age from three years, who attend our nursery, right up to seniors aged 13.”
