THE two teenagers and middle-aged man killed in a horrific car accident at Spofforth, near Harrogate, have now been formally identified.

They were killed on Tuesday evening when a silver Citroen Saxo containing five teenagers collided with a white Skoda Felicia outside Stockeld Park.

The victims were the driver of the Saxo, Craig Jamie Robert Rayiru, 19, of Pannal, Harrogate and his front-seat passenger, Joseph Andrew Wilson, 18, also from Pannal, Harrogate.

Also killed was the driver and sole occupant of the white Skoda Felicia, Howard Catley, 49, of Harrogate.

Mr Catley’s wife, Angela, paid tribute to her husband.

She said: “I was married to Howard for nearly 20 years, he was my best friend as well as my husband. He was always smiling, rarely angry and made a positive impression on everyone who knew him.

“He spent his life looking after other people in his job as a support worker and also as a volunteer with charities such as Breakaway, which helps disabled and older people go on holiday.

“I am struggling to see what my life will be like without him. He was a very special person who will leave a huge hole in a lot of people’s lives. I will miss him.”

Of the three rear-seat male passengers in the Citroen Saxo, only the 17-year-old remains in hospital.

He is still in a critical condition at Leeds General Infirmary.
