PUPILS at an East Yorkshire school have raised £1,292 for Yorkshire war heroes.

At Pocklington School pupils and staff held a Help for Heroes charity concert in aid of ex-servicemen and women who have fought for their country and been injured in some way. Pupils performed to a packed audience in the school’s Tom Stoppard Theatre and a total of £1,292 was raised for the chosen charities including BLESMA (The British Limbless Ex-Servicemen’s and women’s Association), Combat Stress, The Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association and Help for Heroes. Marten Hall, a member of the 4th Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment, who was injured by shrapnel while deployed to Baghdad in May 2008, was presented with a cheque for £1,100 by Mark Ronan, the head teacher at the end of the evening. The additional funds were raised through the sale of charity wrist bands at school and will also be divided between the charities. Marten is currently studying for a BSc in Wildlife and Countryside Conservation at Bishop Burton College.
